England will be aiming to recover from a heart-breaking loss to Brazil when they take on Belgium in yet another international friendly at Wembley Stadium. The Three Lions missed a couple of clear-cut chances to score against the Selecao, with Bukayo Saka and Harry Kane being sorely missed. All Kyle Walker, Harry Maguire, and Sam Johnstone have withdrawn from the squad with injuries, with all Lewis Dunk, Ezri Konsa, and Joe Gomez pushing for a start. In Kane’s absence, Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins will continue leading the line for the hosts.
The Red Devils, on the other hand, failed to impress in a goalless draw with Republic of Ireland and seeing that key players Romelu Lukaku and Kevin De Bruyne remain on the sidelines, we are tempted to put our money on Gareth Southgate’s troops. Both Jeremy Doku and Dodi Lukebakio should be recalled to the starting line-up.
Outright Betting
England are odds on 4/5 favourites with 49jili to make an instant return to winning ways at Wembley this midweek.
Despite coming out on top in three of the last four meetings between the two nations. Belgium are big outsiders at 3/1 while the stalemate can be backed at 13/5.
Betting Angles
Whilst these two sides were both involved in low-scoring affairs last time out, I’m prepared to go against the grain here and back Both Teams to Score at 10/11 on William Hill.
Gareth Southgate’s star-studded team fired a rare blank against Brazil on Saturday night, yet the Three Lions had scored in each of their previous 13 outings across all competitions.
With a much-improved performance exapted from England this midweek. They should be able to rediscover their scoring touch against latest opponents Belgium.
During their Eur0 2024 qualification campaign the Red Devils’ rearguard found clean sheets hard to come by when going up against some of the higher-ranked nations in Group F.
Domenico Tedesco’s team shipped three goals across their two matches with Austria. Not to mention they were held to a 1-1 draw in their penultimate qualifier at home to Sweden.
That being said, Belgium carry plenty of attacking threat of their own and they certainly have the tools to trouble what could well be an experimental England backline.
The Red Devils’ aforementioned stalemate with Ireland was the first time they had failed to make the net bulge in 11 matches since exiting the 2022 World Cup. So they could well land a blow at Wembley on Tuesday night.
Recent Meetings
England and Belgium came across each other in the group stage of the 2020 UEFA Nations League. They’ve claimed a home win each in the head-to-head encounters.
The teams have three wins apiece in the previous six H2H affairs.
Only one of the previous five clashes between these rivals provided three or more goals.
England vs Belgium Prediction
England did little to impress offensively against an inexperienced Brazil side on Friday night. Only one of Brazil’s four starting defenders had ever featured for the national team before. The Three Lions clearly have issues without their main stars on the field. Gareth Southgate will need to improvise on Tuesday. In these circumstances, we do not see the value in backing England to win at the 1.90 odds. Belgium are undefeated in twelve subsequent outings across competitions. We will back the Red Devils to avoid a defeat at Wembley at the 1.95 odds.
The Under 2.5 goals pick also looks like a great betting option at the 1.80 odds. Only one of England’s last five outings provided three or more goals. Belgium will come into this off the back of a goalless draw to Ireland. The match had only three shots on target by both teams combined on Friday. Lastly, four of the previous five H2H encounters between England and Belgium finished with fewer than three goals scored.
